I think that the main safety rules for using the Internnet are the ones listed below.

Use strong passwords;
Access the Internet from a computer that has an antivirus ;
Do not download programmes from suspicious sites;
Change regularly your passwords on the sites;
Keep your passwords in your Gmail account because you may forget them or loose .
